What is Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis where your body is deeply relaxed but your mind is active.

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypno-therapy (Hypnosis therapy) is conducted in a relaxing environment.

We all go into such states of mind naturally in daily life. For example, when we daydream or concentrate deeply on something.

This state of mind is invited into your unconscious mind to open you to suggestions.

You might feel heavy or light, but will remain relaxed and in control at all times.

Your conscious mind switches off while you are relaxed allowing your unconscious mind is open to suggestions. While you are in this state, suggestions are planted to change your behaviour in a positive way or to relieve physical symptoms.

Remember that even if you are hypnotised, you don’t have to take on the therapist’s suggestions. No one can hypnotise you if you don’t want them to. However, much like watching tv commercials, it does get in!

Your subconscious mind has many beliefs about losing weight. You might automatically think: Losing weight is impossible, that you don’t want to give up your favourite foods, or that you don’t have time for exercise. These unconscious thoughts – which are shaped by memories, experiences and expectations – ultimately drive our conscious actions, and we don’t even realize this is happening.

In short, our subconscious sets us up to fail. And that’s true about many of our bad habits – negative self-talk, smoking, overeating – they’re all deeply rooted in unconscious thought.

Through hypnotherapy, though, we can begin to alter and update these negative assumptions. And that might explain why the research strongly suggests hypnosis works for conditions like chronic pain, substance abuse and weight loss.

By training our minds to think differently about challenges and goals, we can eliminate the negative thoughts that so frequently lead to self-sabotage.

Simply stated, hypnosis empowers you to change your unconscious thoughts. And that, in a nutshell, is how hypnotherapy works.

Why do people with cancer use hypnotherapy?

Having gone through Breast Cancer, I found Hypnotherapy helpful to assist me in managing the stress and anxiety I felt.

People with cancer most often use hypnotherapy for sickness or pain. Hypnotherapy helps with these symptoms. It can also help with depression, anxiety and stress.

What happens when I contact you?

Once you contact me we will arrange a time and clinic. I use various clinics around Auckland, mainly on the North Shore. At your first appointment, we will ask some general questions about your health, lifestyle and medical history. This may include questions about diet, sleep patterns and how you feel emotionally. We will talk about what your goals are and what you want to achieve through hypnotherapy.

You sit in a comfortable chair and when you are ready we begin.

During the session, you’ll be aware of your surroundings. You can come out of the hypnotic state very quickly if you want to.

You will receive an MP3 so that you can manage your own condition. It may take a few weeks of practice before you feel the benefits of using self-hypnosis.
